1879 Hart's Annual Army List (Anglo - Zulu War Link) A/F
An 1879 dated annual army list of serving, reserve and retired officer's in the British and Indian armies, Militia and Indian Civil Service.
The list was corrected prior going to print on the 30th of December 1878 and who would have known that only 23 days later that many of the officer's named within the list would perish at the Battle of Isandlwana in KwaZulu - Natal Province, South Africa at the start of the Anglo - Zulu war.
Also listed are the names of the officer's that heroically defended the mission station at Rorke's Drift also on the 22nd January 1879 just after the British defeat at Isandlwana by Zulu warriors.
Listed on page 267 are the names of Lieutenant's Melvill & Coghill who gallantly attempted to save the Queen's colours but both would perish under Zulu spears, also on the same page is Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead who was awarded the Victoria cross for his actions at Rorke's Drift.
Page 210 lists the name of Lieutenant John Rouse Merriot Chard officer commanding at Rorke's Drift who would also be awarded the V.C for his gallant actions and highly praised for his leadership during the fight.
Condition report - The 147 year old hardback book is in a rather tired state and missing its spine cover which has been replaced with modern adhesive tape, there is some light fading on both covers along with the odd blemish mark and ding, some evidence of old removed 'Sellotape' to rear.
Internally in good order apart from some loose pages and some separation from the spine due to the cover damage, priced accordingly due to the faults, please study the images in regards to condition.
