Vintage Chrome - Plated USAAF Lockheed P- 38 Lightning Fighter Aircraft Desktop Model

A most appealing vintage desktop chrome plated model of a WW2 USAAF Lockheed P- 38 Lightning fighter aircraft on a heavy weight marble stand.

This twin - engine model aircraft with its 13 inch wingspan definitely has some age to it and is not one of the more recent churned out pieces being offered for sale everywhere as ''period'' and ''real vintage''.

The chrome plating has some age related wear from polishing and the base metal (most likely aluminium) reacting to the top coating this creating an overall light speckling finish/patina.

The Perspex/plastic propeller discs are crude replacements as the originals must have been damaged over time, these could once again be easily replaced as the bosses simply unscrew, the marble base with its chamfered edges remains in excellent condition, still retains its original sunken screw bolt fixing.

Some of the earlier/period made pieces are now achieving high prices in top end auction rooms.
