WW1 British Army S.M.L.E Rifle Canvas Valise A/F
A well used WW1 British army issue canvas valise for the S.M.L.E rifle.
The date and makers details no longer exist but a War Department broad arrow can still be seen on the front of the valise.
The closure flap is trimmed with leather and the underside edging trimmed with cotton twill, the leather strap is present and still supple but with some surface cracking, the small fastener buckle is now missing, all the stitching around the main body remains intact and firm.
The lower section of the canvas sleeve is heavily oil stained and still has a wax/oily feel to it, there are also other dirt marks present but these are light dirt and possibly removeable.
This pattern of valise was never fitted with a carrying strap unlike later types
There is a handwritten name present inside the flap and it appears to be 'Roulston' but I am uncertain of the last name but it must start with the letter 'S' as there is an 'R.S' stamped on the front of the valise, this looks period done.
Priced accordingly due to faults, please study the images in regards to condition.
