WW1 South Lancashire Reg't Attributed Officer's Compass & Case 1917

A wonderful looking 1917 dated Verner's pattern prismatic compass & leather case attributed to Lieutenant Robert Alexander Bigham of 3rd Battalion S.Lancs regiment, attached 2nd Somerset Light Infantry and later returned S.Lancs.

Bigham served in France from 1/11/1916 and would later see service in Afghanistan on the North West Frontier 1919, he has handwritten his name on the compass, case and shoulder strap.

The base of the fully working compass bears the makers initials F- L , a WD broad arrow and year date of manufacture, the polished leather case is impressed with the makers details ''French & Son Ltd'' 1917, the shoulder strap is in very good order and remains supple.
