British Pattern D-Shaped Mess Tin

A well used D-shaped mess tin still with its wire handle.

The mess tin is definitely not WW1 British military issue as it does not have the front wire type bracket to take the leather strap, possibly a private purchase item.

During the inter-war period the military issue mess tins were manufactured without the above mentioned front bracket, pre-WW1 examples also did not have them fitted making it difficult to date this tin, there are no makers mark or date stamps present.

The heart shaped side brackets have the crude fold over fixing to retain the wire handle, these were prone to break easily losing the handle, the tin has overall light surface rusting, no perforations.
