WW2 ATS Officer - SOE Trainee Grouping (Named Medals)
A wonderful grouping that belonged to P.196919 2nd Sub. Germaine Marie Cazier/Ryan , a Flemish born lady who joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) in 1939 and would later undergo Special Operations Executive (SOE) training.
Amongst the group which includes her named medals (married name) is a printed service history compiled by her daughter in later years, this archive tells an amazing story of the young Germaine gaining her British naturalisation papers in 1932, then in 1939 joining the ATS much to her own mothers disgust (pro-German views), her mother slashed her daughters uniform whilst Germaine returned home on leave, they never spoke again.
Whilst training to become an officer and already being a fluent French speaker she was noticed by SOE recruiters and swiftly enrolled for clandestine training, with her medals is a small handwritten note mentioning her excellent involvement on various courses and time spent away on ''company business''.
Whilst serving in her ATS role she was the driver for her commanding officer, they fell in love and he being fully aware of the dangers of clandestine 'behind the lines' operations begged her not to go overseas, they married in 1941 and she remained in Britain for the duration of the war.
