1920's - Early 30's British Army Portable Apothecary Bottle & Phial Rack / Stand
A first quarter of the 20th century British army portable apothecary bottle & phial storage stand.
Made from hardwood for durability and to withstand the effects from harsh chemicals, it may be Beech but possibly a tropical hardwood which was often used for period made laboratory equipment/worktops.
The upstand bears a stencilled white broad arrow where all military issue stands are marked, I have recently seen an identical stand with an Air Ministry (A crown M) logo impressed into the wood and again from the 1920's.
The military apothecary stands were a simplified version of an earlier commercially produced rack/stand, these were made to a higher standard with brass carrying handles and drawer compartments, the military variant has no dividers.
The stand has been left as found, still with dirt and old oil marks present, was used until recently as a storage unit for small hand tools, no breaks or splits to the woodwork.
There are overall scuffs, dings and small chips present but considering its age and usage it remains in good solid order, will make a wonderful display piece especially when bottles & phials are added.
Size - 17 inch wide, 9 inch deep, 9 1/2 inches tall.
