WW2 Royal Engineer Sergeant's Far East Uniform Group
A wartime dated Royal Engineer serjeants uniform group in wonderful clean condition.
The Indian made 37/40 pattern battledress blouse retains good colour and still with all its original cloth insignia, makers ink stamp present on back of internal pocket, faint 1942 date, possibly a 'Shah' produced BD.
The BD is a small to medium size, approx. 36 - 38 inch chest, with wartime replaced civilian type buttons which were commonly replaced due to the metal buttons forever coming off, with a small amount of service wear to waist strap, one small hole near back shoulder blade close to seam, otherwise incredibly clean for a BD that was worn in the Far East (India / Burma).
The slouch hat is British made by Denham & Hargreaves and dated 1943, this has a real ''been there'' look about it, lost its stiffness due to climate and monsoon rain, some minor tracking but no holes, still retains its R.E pagri flash which did have a cap badge fitted, now absent.
A twice named kitbag with a misspelling (Hilditch or Nilditch), which name is spelt correctly I simply don't know as have been unsuccessful in tracing his 4038422 service number.
Found inside the kitbag was a single webbing gaiter bearing the same service number, would be wonderful to find the sergeants history, not listed on the casualty list either.
Nice group, very clean.
