Scarce Inter-War 2nd Btn Suffolk (1st Cambridgeshire) Reg't Wolseley Pattern 'Sun' Helmet & Bag (Captured Singapore 1942, P.O.W)

A rare Inter-war period Suffolk regiment other rank's Wolseley pattern 'sun' helmet with its very distinctive thick multi-fold pagri tied at the 4, 8 & 12 o'clock position.
The top fold has red & yellow piping that was first adopted by the regiment in 1928, to the side is the yellow felt castle flash (with some moth nibbling around outer edges).
The size 6 3/4 helmet is in very good condition with no damage or weakness to the cork body, the outer fabric has some light foxing/dirt marks present but overall is very good considering its service in a hot climate, inside the dome is a hand written year date '31' which is the year the regiment was posted to the Far-East.
The storage bag is in good strong order but grubby from service use, it's served its purpose well and protected the helmet.
The helmet was worn by 5835594 Private Alfred John Marlow (last 4 digits of service number displayed) who served with the 2nd battalion Suffolk's in India, he would later transfer to the 1st Cambridgeshire's who in 1942 were tasked with holding back invading Imperial Japanese forces in Malaya, Marlow was captured at Singapore on the 15th February 1942.
Marlow was now a prisoner of war and sent to Japan, he died in captivity on 12.1.45 from cardiac Beri Beri and was later buried at Yokohama War Cemetery, he was 29 years old.
